Chicago

Come on, Babe! If you’re looking for razzle-dazzle entertainment… If you’re looking for a night out at the theater you’ll remember for years to come… If you’re looking for pure Broadway… then look no further than Chicago! A true New York City institution, Chicago has everything that makes Broadway great: a universal tale of fame, fortune and all that jazz; one show-stopping-song after another; and the most astonishing dancing you’ve ever seen. No wonder Chicago has been honored with six Tony Awards®, two Olivier Awards®, a Grammy and thousands of standing ovations. It’s also no surprise that Chicago has wowed audiences all around the world, from Mexico City to Moscow, from Sao Paulo to South Africa. But the hottest place to experience it is on Broadway. There’s always someone fabulous center stage. Whether you’re looking for your first Broadway musical… whether you’ve seen the Academy Award®-winning film and want to experience the show live on stage… or whether you’ve seen it before and want to recapture the magic, Chicago always delivers. Chicago is a classic. It’s the show you can always count on to give you the thrills and memories that only come from seeing a Broadway musical. Here is what the critics recently had to say: Chicago still glitters hypnotically. - Ben Brantley, The New York Times, 2/16/07 Chicago remains a sizzler - one extremely sex-see experience! - Michael Sommers, Star-Ledger February 2007 The show is as crazy-fun as ever! - Jess Cagle, WCBS-TV/ People Magazine The most entertaining musical of the decade - Michael Kuchwara, Associated Press Chicago cast recording Buy Tickets at Telecharge.com

Ambassador on Broadway | The Shubert Organization

A Letter From Omdurman

e-PROGRAM Click Here to view the show program. Production Photos Click here to view photos from the show. History collides. A personal response to the photographs of Abu Ghraib, the deluge of images and (mis)information thrown up by our military (mis)adventures in the Muslim world, and the idea of patterns of history. As part of the NEW PLAY FESTIVAL, The Flea Theater is proud to present the world premiere of A LETTER FROM OMDURMAN by Jeffrey M. Jones and directed by Page Burkholder. A LETTER FROM OMDURMAN is an assemblage of stories—some true, some invented—which interweave three historical periods: contemporary America; the events leading up to the gunfight at the OK Corral (Tombstone, AZ), and the Anglo-Sudanese war which ended in the defeat of the Mahdi Army at the Battle of Omdurman (1898), described by Winston S. Churchill in his memoir, The River War. The play is a dream weave of voices and stories: mythic history, where Lynndie England and Charlie Grainer walk out of Abu Ghraib right into the OK Corral, while Wyatt Earp, with a couple of gunships and young lieutenant in the 21st Lancers named Winston Churchill, track the hidden prophet known as the Mahdi, till the trail turns cold at sunset, at the Pier House in Key West. All true, mostly factual, just didn’t necessarily happen. The production features members of the Flea’s acclaimed resident acting ensemble, The Bats: Matt Barbot, Veracity Butcher, Eric Folks, Danny Rivera, Will Turner, and Wilton Yeung. The design team includes Kate Foster (Set), Jonathan Cottle (Lights), Colin Whitely (Sound), Whitney Locher (Costumes), and JuLondre Brown (Stage Manager). A LETTER FROM OMDURMAN will run in repertory May 4 – May 27 at The Flea’s Downstairs Theater. Jones is a playwright whose works include 70 Scenes of Halloween, Nightcoil, Der Inka Von Peru, Tomorrowland, a series of Crazy Plays, Write If You Get Work, J.P. Morgan Saves The Nation, a musical with a score by the late Jonathan Larson, directed by Jean Randich, Stone Monkey Banished, commissioned by the Mettawee River Theater Company, and A Man’s Best Friend, produced by the Undermain Theatre in New York and Dallas.
End of the Rainbow

Olivier Award Winner Tracie Bennett gives what critics have raved is nothing short of “the performance of a lifetime” in Peter Quilter’s highly acclaimed End of the Rainbow. This emotional powerhouse of a show, directed by Tony Award® winner Terry Johnson ( La Cage aux Folles) was the most buzzed about show in London where it played to capacity night-after-night. The critically celebrated production, which consistently drew standing ovations, now sets its sights on Broadway. It’s December 1968 and Judy Garland is poised to make a triumphant comeback and reclaim her crown as the greatest talent of her generation…once again. This savagely funny drama shows Garland facing the challenge with her signature cocktail of talent, tenacity and razor-sharp wit, revealing the most brilliant star in her most demanding role: her life. Along with the accompaniment of a six-piece onstage band, Tracie Bennett brings alive some of Garland’s most memorable and beloved songs, including “The Man That Got Away,” “Come Rain Or Come Shine,” “The Trolley Song” and of course “Somewhere Over The Rainbow.” Buy Tickets at Telecharge.com

Ambassador on Broadway | The Shubert Organization

You Better Sit Down: Tales From My Parents' Divorce

e-PROGRAM Click here to view the show program. Production Photos Click here to view production photos. VIDEOS Click here to view a lesson in courtship. Click here to see where the trouble began. Click here to learn why they broke up. Engaging. The truth about these four defunct marriages is laid bare with a simplicity and honesty that makes you reflect on how infrequently many adult children dare to probe into the most momentous passages in their parents’ lives. – THE NEW YORK TIMES Entertaining and moving. Anyone who’s gone through a similar situation — and statistics suggest you probably have — will find much to relate to here. – THE NEW YORK POST I found myself most touched by the series of residual shocks under the substrate of this elegant, wistfully funny show—the little tremors from lifetimes spent realizing that a parent’s trauma is forever out of reach. – TIME OUT NEW YORK (Critic’s Pick) **** This is riveting confessional theater. – VARIETY A chronicle of generational change…The couples’ sobering breakups, years later, coincide with other sorts of cultural retrenchments— a broader backdrop that gives this absorbingly candid piece the breadth to comment on kinships of all configurations, whether divided by divorce or not. – THE VILLAGE VOICE An uncompromising and funny documentary theater piece. – BACKSTAGE (Critic’s Pick) The Flea Theater and The Civilians present the New York Premiere of YOU BETTER SIT DOWN: TALES FROM MY PARENTS’ DIVORCE, by Anne Kauffman, Matthew Maher, Caitlin Miller, Jennifer R. Morris, Janice Paran and Robbie Collier Sublett. Conceived by Jennifer R. Morris and directed by Anne Kauffman, previews begin April for this limited-run Off-Broadway engagement, with opening night slated for April 12. Four members of The Civilians sat their parents down and asked them for the real story behind their divorces. Each actor assumes the role of their own mother or father (or in one case, both) in a show crafted entirely from those verbatim interviews. YOU BETTER SIT DOWN: TALES FROM MY PARENTS’ DIVORCE is shockingly candid, unexpectedly hilarious, and proves that what we want to know about our parents’ lives and what we actually should know are two totally different things. YOU BETTER SIT DOWN: TALES FROM MY PARENTS’ DIVORCE is performed by Matthew Maher, Caitlin Miller, Jennifer R. Morris, and Robbie Collier Sublett with a production team that includes Mimi Lien (scenic design), Sarah Beers (costumes), Ben Stanton (lighting), Leah Gelpe (sound design), Caite Hevner (projection design), and Megan Dickert (stage manager). YOU BETTER SIT DOWN: TALES FROM MY PARENTS’ DIVORCE runs April 7 – May 6, Tuesday through Saturday @ 7pm, Saturday & Sunday @ 3pm. Note: No show on April 8, but there is an added performance on Monday, April 9 @ 7pm. The Flea is located at 41 White Street between Church and Broadway, three blocks south of Canal, close to the A/C/E, N/R/Q, 6, J/M/Z and 1 subway lines. Tickets are $35 (except for Tuesday, which are Pay-What-You-Can) and are available by calling 212-352-3101 or online at www.theflea.org. Post-Show Event Nights As part of the previously announced run of YOU BETTER SIT DOWN: TALES FROM MY PARENTS’ DIVORCE, the Flea and The Civilians are pleased to announce YOU BETTER SIT DOWN SALON NIGHTS: YOUR TALES TAKE THE STAGE, an innovative series of post-play events. Every Wednesday and Saturday evening following the show, we offer our audiences a rare opportunity to get personally engaged and share in the storytelling. Civilians’ artists and The Flea’s resident acting company, The Bats, will develop short scenes and songs from material contributed by audiences both in the theater and online based on questions related to personal experiences with divorce and relationships. In addition, a unique collaboration of artists and organizations including playwrights Jason Grote (a writer on NBC’s Smash) and Jon Kern (a writer on The Simpsons), Michael Schulman of The New Yorker, composer Michael Friedman, and singer-songwriters Kamara Thomas, and Sam Bisbee will present works as part of these one-of-a-kind events.
